Introduction:

Princess Cruises has become a trend setter in the cruise industry as so much is going between now and 2025, today in 2018, Princess already operates a fleet of 17 modern cruise ships and they operate worldwide.

Already there are three Royal-Class ships in the Princess fleet, these being the Royal Princess (2013), Regal Princess (2014) and the latest of the class the Majestic Princess  entered service in 2017.

However the keel for the fourth Royal-Class ship the Sky Princess was recently laid, and she is now under construction, and she will join the fleet in October 2019.

The Sky Princess will arrive next in 2019

In August 2018 Princess Cruises officially named their fifth Royal-Class ship as the “Enchanted Princess” and she is due to join the fleet in October 2019.

But the news simply does not stop there, for before we knew it another announcement came regarding two 175,000 Gross Tonne “Next-Generation” LPG Powered ships. This page will cover all the aforementioned!

If the above does not excites you, well read about the many new features to be found on these new ships, for they are exciting indeed!

 (1) Princess Cruises Reveals Name of Fifth Royal-Class Ship
As Fleet Expansion Continues

August 20, 2018: As Princess Cruises’ fleet expansion continues, the Premium International Cruise Line revealed the name of the ship which will launched in 2020, the “Enchanted Princess”.

An illustration of the Enchanted princess

Enchanted Princess is scheduled to debut on June 15, 2020 sailing on a series of European voyages and bookings for her maiden season, in the summer of “”2020, will open on November 8, 2018.

“The name Enchanted Princess is captivating and conveys the elegance and grace of this more than special new ship which will introduce more travellers to the pleasures and value of cruising,” said Ms. Jan Swartz President of Princess Cruises. “We are certain Enchanted Princess will exceed the expectations of our guests, ensuring they have the most memorable cruise holiday.”

Ms. Swartz said Princess has the strongest pipeline of premium new ship builds in the world. The arrival of Enchanted Princess will be followed by the debut of the sixth Royal-Class vessel for Princess Cruises in 2022. The cruise line also has two new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) powered ships on order, bringing its new ship order to five ships in six years.

Construction of the 143,700-ton, 3,660-passenger Enchanted Princess will take place in the Fincantieri Monfalcone shipyard with the ship set to feature an evolution of the design platform used for the cruise line’s previous Royal-Class ships, including the new feature as found on the Sky Princess, the revolutionary “Sky Suites” that are able to host up to five guests. These Suites offer their guests a dazzling 270-degree panorama view throughout their voyage. Complementing the exquisitely appointed living spaces inside, it is accompanied by a luxuriously furnished 700-square-foot balcony, being the largest at sea.

Princess Cruises currently operates a fleet of 17 modern cruise ships, sailing voyages around the globe. Enchanted Princess is a sister ship to four other Royal-Class ships in the cruise line’s fleet, Royal Princess, Regal Princess, Majestic Princess and Sky Princess, which will be joining the fleet in October 2019.

(2) The Fourth Royal Class Ship is under construction

July 30, 2018: Princess Cruises is currently building its fourth Royal Class ship at the “Fincantieri” shipyards, Monfalcone Italy. But officially it was on July 5, 2018 when Princess celebrated the “Sky Princess” official keel laying at the “Fincantieri” shipyards!

The laying of the keel traditionally signifies the start of a ship’s construction, which actually recalls the times of the days of wooden ship building, when a vessels keel or its thick timber backbone was first placed down. These days with modern ships, keel laying it is more like putting huge Lego blocks together, for ships today are made up of pre-fabricated modular components and these are all welded together, even cabins arrive onsite almost complete, and are lifted into place in blocks. Nothing is like it used to be, when men would work and with precision fit each cabin with fine timbers and made them feel comfortable and homely, now they are more like small hotel rooms, unless you pay a good deal more for a Mini-Suite, a Suite or may even prefer a new higher grade, such as an Owners Suite, a Penthouse or something completely new that will be on the next three Royal Class ships as well as the PG ships.

Here you can see what I mean by modular construction

The Sky Princess is to debut in October 2019, when she will be taking cruising to new heights and she will commence first in the Mediterranean, and then head for the Caribbean.

Here is an illustration of the Sky Princess seen at sea

Sky Princess will have a gross tonnage of 143,700 tons, and she will accommodate 3,660 passengers, and 80% of her cabins will have balconies. This fine new ship will be what we might call “an evolution” of the original of Royal Class ships, for she will include the very best features and services of her forerunners, such as the Central Atrium, known as “The Piazza”, articulated on three bridges and overlooked by lounges and restaurants, the interactive studio “Princess Live”.

Topside there is the Adult-only relaxation area the “Sanctuary”, the “Camp Discovery Club” for children and teenagers, there will be a wide variety of restaurants, including “Salty Dog Grill”, “Afredo's Pizzeria”, “Vines Wine Bar”, “Chef's Table Lumiere” and the “World Fresh Marketplace”. Of course there will be “Movies Under the Stars”, and the ship will feature brand new furniture styles and design in every corner of the ship. But she will have feature that are not seen on her earlier sisters.

The experience at “Chef's Table Lumiere” is the finest dining experience at sea, and it should not be missed

This is one on my personal favourites, “Sabatinis Italian Trattoria

Let us now look at one of the amazing NEW “Sky Suites”!

Sweeping Vistas and the Largest Balcony at Sea:

Exclusive certainly does not begin to describe the amazing experience to be discovered in a Sky Suite. For crowning the heights of the Sky Princess’ accommodations’ are without doubt the ship’s two “Sky Suites” that are able to host up to five guests. These Suites offer their guests a dazzling 270-degree panorama view throughout their voyage. Complementing the exquisitely appointed living spaces inside, it is accompanied by a luxuriously furnished 700-square-foot balcony, being the largest at sea. And it invites you to relax privately or host your own celebrations or fully catered events.

From their huge balcony, guests can watch “Movies Under the Stars” from the front part, there are stern views aft

also views to the starboard side. Not to forget the luxurious furnishings and dinning, as well as entertaining options

Greater Tranquillity Just for Adults:

With eight private cabanas at “The Sanctuary:, being twice as many as on the other Royal-Class ships the Sky Princess offers even more opportunities to indulge in a private getaway at thye exclusive Adults-only retreat. Relax with signature beverages, light meals, and al fresco massages. Serenity Stewards attend to your every need, whether it’s to be on hand to provide chilled face towels or Evian® water atomizers.

The Sanctuary offers the height of luxury and new features

The Best in Entertainment & Crafted Cocktails:

The newly re-designed Vista Lounge at the aft of the ship features an endless variety of world-class entertainers on stage each night, from live bands and comedians to illusionists and musicians. Grab an expertly crafted cocktail and take a spot in an intimate corner for the perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy quality time with friends and/or family.

The Vista Show Lounge

Music & Dancing:

Crafted by some of the world’s top directors and choreographers, our remarkable and dynamic “Princess Productions” will transport you to realms as exotic as the destinations we visit. Imaginative shows created in-house feature dazzling stage sets, Broadway classics, popular hits and original numbers will be performed by some of the largest and most talented casts found at sea.

The Tree House:

Even the littlest guests will delight in this whimsical, forest-themed world that inspires playtime and invites exploration. Kids, aged 3 to 7, can dance, enjoy pyjama movie nights, create art projects like Animal Planet puppets and masks or compete in a Lego boat-building contest.

This is paradise for youngsters between 3 to 7

Step Into the Lodge:

Inspired by the great outdoors, this cosy center keeps kids busy with games, dancing and kid-sized Olympic competitions. Their minds stay busy, too, with California Science Center programs like rocket building, or they can explore outer space with Stargazing and learning how to build a model roller coaster. Exciting events like talent shows, theme nights, and treasure hunts encourage new friendships and family togetherness.

So much for the kids to do, they will never be bored

Hang Out in the Beach House:

This contemporary lounge is "the place” for teens, perfect for hanging out and socializing with late-night movie viewing, hip hop dance classes, video game tournaments and a variety of sports competitions like basketball, tennis, or other games. But that’s just the beginning. They will dazzle on the red carpet with our Rock the Boat teens-only party, complete with awards and “mocktails.”

When you are a teenager, you need something far more special, and this is so much more sophisticated, yet there is so much to do!

(3) Princess Cruises to Build Two Next-Generation LNG Cruise Ships

This New Ship Order Represents the Largest and Most Environmentally Friendly Advanced Fuel

Technology Ships for Princess Cruises, being a Leading International Premium Cruise Line.

July 23, 2018: Princess Cruises has become one of the world’s leading cruise brands as well as the world’s largest leisure travel company. Today they announced a memorandum of agreement with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri S.p.A. to build two new cruise ships on a “Next-Generation” platform designed to further enhance an already world-class vacation experience for its guests. The new builds are due to be delivered late in 2023 and in spring 2025 respectively.

The new ships will be Princess Cruises’ first ships to be dual-fuel powered, primarily by “Liquefied Natural Gas” (LNG), the marine industry’s most environmentally friendly advanced fuel technology and the world’s cleanest burning fossil fuel, which will significantly reduce air emissions and marine gasoil (MGO). The new ships, which will be the largest by capacity in the Princess Cruises fleet, will be built at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.

“This revolutionary platform for next-generation, LNG-powered cruise ships will introduce innovative design and leisure experiences driven by the future vacation and lifestyle trends of our guests – further evolving the already best-in-class Princess Cruises experience we deliver today,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises. “We look forward to collaborating with Fincantieri to bring our vision for this next- generation premium cruise ship into service,” added Swartz.

The two ships will be 175,000 gross tons and will accommodate approximately 4,300 guests (lower berths). Specification details for the ship design, along with anticipated features and amenities of this all-new platform design for Princess Cruises, will be shared in the future.

Mr. Giuseppe Bono, CEO of Fincantieri added:

“We are proud to extend our long-established partnership with Princess Cruises, a brand we have been tied to since our return to the cruise ship building industry in 1990. After so many years, we are ready to enter, together, a new era of this industry, increasingly aimed at reducing even more of our environmental impact. We proudly do this with an all-time record project, both in terms of size and technology. We believe that there are no more significant milestones than these to reaffirm our market-leading position. This builds upon the solid partnership between our country and Carnival Corporation -- the largest foreign investor in Italy – while at the same time building upon our technological strength and increasing employment.”

In addition to today’s news, Princess Cruises has three new Royal-Class ships on order with Fincantieri, including its next new ship, the Sky Princess, which is already under construction and is scheduled for delivery in October 2019. Then there are the other two Royal-Class ships, the first to be delivered is the Enchanted Princess in 2020 and the sixth of the series which is as yet un-named is due in 2022.

The agreement for Princess Cruises’ next-generation cruise ships represent Carnival Corporation’s 10th and 11th contracted LNG-based vessels and are part of the company’s ongoing fleet enhancement strategy, aimed at creating excitement in the vacation market while accelerating demand for cruising, the fastest growing segment in the vacation industry. Carnival Corporation currently has 20 new ships under contract and scheduled for delivery between 2018 and 2025.
